Synopsis of War Witch

This film tells the story of the cruelty of the African civil war and the African people's desire for peace and humanity through the perspective of an adolescent girl, Komona (played by Rachel Mwanza). At the age of 12, Comona's village was destroyed by rebels and her parents were killed. Comona was kidnapped by local rebels and forced to become a child soldier. At the age of 13, Comona was not only trained as a killing tool by a cruel rebel commander, but also became one of his comfort women. In the pain and fear all day long, Komona fell in love with an older white-haired boy (Serge Kanyinda), whom Komona called the "magician." At the age of 14, Comona tried her best to escape back to her hometown and finally escaped the control of the rebels. Actress Rachel Malvazan won the Best Actress crown at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival (Silver Bear Award) in 2012. "Battlefield" was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards in 2013.
