Synopsis of The Story of Marie and Julien

"The Story of Marie and Julien" is one of the "Ghost Stories" series directed by Jacques Rivette in 1975. The original plan was to make four films about "ghosts" based on the four traditional film genres of romance, detective work, westerns, and song and dance. Together they form a unified story. "The Story of Mary and Julien" was the first "romance film" in this project. After Rivette shot two of them first, he started filming "The Story of Mary and Julian", but then stopped. . Rivette explained: "I was very tired from making two movies, each with its own style, but I set a trap for myself." More than 20 years later, Rivette revived the project. The film retains the structure designed by Rivette more than 20 years ago.
