Synopsis of 42nd Street

Julian (Warner Baxter) is a Broadway theater director. Although he is old, Julian still longs to produce a perfect drama. An old rich man gave Julian a large sum of money to invest in a new drama he wanted to shoot, just because the rich man had always admired Dorothy (Bebe Daniels), the leading actress of the theater troupe. Unfortunately, for the rich man's efforts , Dorothy didn't want to take a look, she still loved her former lover madly. The intense rehearsal period is finally over, and the grand opening night is approaching. However, at this juncture, Dorothy broke her knee in an accident and missed the stage. She was replaced by a chorus girl named Peggy (Ruby Keeler). To everyone's surprise, Peggy's performance was an unprecedented success.
